Live from Paris
Bonjour tout le monde! I am writing live from Paris, my temporary office for the next two months. There are a few reasons I'm here, and one of them is definitely the sun. It's closer to where I'll need to be going for various important events, including Gamescom this August, where some of our dev team will be attending. It's also closer to a few developers on the team which allows me to work a bit more closely with them to get a lot more work done.
For those of you who are living under a rock, or perhaps you just neglected to check back in the last few weeks - Centration has indeed been GREENLIT on Steam, meaning we will be launching, selling and distributing the game via Steam in the near future.
For those who are not aware, you will be able to redeem steam-keys against your pre-purchased accounts on your profiles in the near future. An email will be sent out once we've set up the system and you can do so. Please be aware that the steam keys will only allow access when we launch our Alpha, in the near future.
That's not to say everything gets easier - we've still got our work cut out for us. Steam just handles a lot of the legwork in terms of distribution and sales. We'll still offer pre-purchases on our site, and at launch we're planning a 'steam alternative' launcher for those who wish to avoid Steam.
However, Steamworks integration does mean:
- Steam Achievements
- Steam Trading Cards
- Steam Join-In-Progress via Friends
- Valve Anti-Cheat
- Statistic Tracking via Steam API
Steam also enables us to use the Early Access system, which allows us to grant those who have pre-purchased or will pre-purchase the game to get instant-access to our Alpha and Beta tests via Steam.
Needless to say the whole team are excited about the news, and it's boosted morale around here about 100 times.
New Site Design
You won't see it yet, but accompanying the launch of our Alpha, you'll see a brand new swanky site here, all set-up and functional to work alongside in-game features and Steam integration.
I'm pretty excited about it, and think it looks great so far. The web team have been working their butts off on making it look and work great.
Alpha ReleaseYes... I'm acknowledging this particular question. We are planning on launching an alpha test for our Premium and above pre-purchasers very soon. We're currently planning on September but this is heavily dependant on whether or not development goes smoothly and we don't encounter too many bugs.
That said, the early alpha-version will be very plain, with not much content at all. The purpose of the early test is to initiate stress testing and to garner community feedback as early as possible. We want to develop the game alongside everyone playing it at the same time, and to do this we need to deliver a platform to build on - and that platform will be delivered via Steam Early Access in September.
The Early-Access Alpha is set to have the following features out-of-the-box:
- Full Dynmaic Airflow Simulation
- Dynamic Electrical and Power Simulation
- In-Game Computing and Scripting
- Full Environmental Interaction
- One small space station to play on
- Basic combat and health
- Basic character creation and persistent character progression
It's worth mentioning that some of these features will be incomplete or basic versions - we plan on expanding these features over time and adding, fixing and expanding their functionality as we develop Centration.
A community feedback tracker is already set up and ready to go, we'll make it public alongside the release of the Early Access Alpha.
Thank you all for your amazing support.
No, we really mean it. Your support is what is making this project so worthwhile to keep on going. We hope to deliver the best sandbox space-station simulation you guys have ever played.
Au revoir, messieurs.
